VHS or Beta at Webster, Voxtrot at Mercury Lounge

On Wednesday night, I had to give up the Subways (with Open Bar), to get to Webster Hall at 10:00 for the ElleGirl Magazine party. I love ElleGirl, but I love free booze even more. Unfortunately, I hate the slowest bartenders in the city, two of them located at Webster Hall. In one hour, I only got two drinks.

VHS or Beta took the stage at 10:30 and launched into their funky 80s style that they do so well. When the place is basically empty, it’s hard to really get your groove on. The guy with the basketball –yes, a guy brought his own basketball- made me ponder using Webster Hall for some Indie-rock Dodgeball.

Promptly at 10:50, Ang and I rendezvoused with Jay and Christie, and we high-tailed it to the Mercury Lounge. Although I had to give up a free show with open bar for Voxtrot, it was well worth it.

They played a nice full set complete with all their EP-material and some absolutely fantastic new stuff. I was wowed. For the first encore, they whipped out “Whiskey” for the “bloggers”. For the second, so grateful for the appreciative crowd who didn’t want them to finish, they closed with “Wrecking Force.”

"Ramesh pranced his skunk like hair around the stage like he just scored a date with a super model while the rest of the boys play the role of indie rock band to a T." (Mr. Goodtimes)

If your looking for that Whiskey track, here it is, for a limited time:

Voxtrot – Whiskey

Their website has another track. You can also stream a newer song at myspace.
And if you don’t have the EP, don’t waste any more time and get it right now.
