Review: The Boy Least Likely To, R&R
The Boy Least Likely To - Rock Upon A Porch With You (mp3)
[pic cred] Two songs into The Boy Least Likely To’s set on Friday I was fairly ticked. Special shows like that are usually not the best circumstances to catch a band, especially one making its US debut. No opening acts left the ever-compacting crowd especially antsy with an unknown set time, and a DJ who was out of their mind. I was not in the best of spirits. When the band came out all was forgiven. Almost. They looked adorable; a little creepy (don’t ask me why), but smiley and adorable. At the first notes the crowd started to bop. And then, more or less, halted. What the hell? It sounded as if they were playing in a different room… a block away. Futhermore, the mic’s faded in and out with irritating crackles. I had begun to think we’d be better off with the sound at Webster Hall.
After they changed the microcphones and increased the output on the PA, and five or six songs into the set I might add, we could finally enjoy an unadulterated version of the band.
And perhaps “Un-adult” is also a useful term to describe the band: bright colors, toy sounds, and an energetic audience who seemed to want to be in the PJ’s and play with stuffed animals. During one song, someone started to blow bubbles; it was all-to-perfect.
The audience was very responsive and the band full of life. They played the B-side “Rock Upon a Porch With You” (see mp3 above) and closed with an encore of a reprise of “My Tiger My Heart.” Fantastic. I can’t wait to hear them somewhere else. I'm having my parents send my Bo-bo.
Jason Productshop and Amrit VI have more.

That review IS great. Here's another one from the same guy:
"As great as Alex Tretiak's band is, it's not as good as being rejected by a slutty girl then smoking a pack of cigarettes by yourself."
I understand there's a position available at Pitchfork...
Hey thanks for that b-side! Too bad the sound was against them, I hope I can catch them sometime at SXSW.
You've no business referring to comely young lads as "adorable."
check your dictionary. i don't think there's a more appropriate word for them. it's a unisex term anyway.
